Jonathan Castellon | QB | Class of 2028 | Bell Gardens High School
Jonathan Castellon boarded the bus with a simple goal: exposure. The Class of 2028 quarterback from Bell Gardens High School signed up for the College Bus + Camps TOUR because he wanted to be face to face with college coaches, not just a name on a recruiting profile. By the time the trip was over, he’d gotten that and a whole lot more.

“I expected to compete with other kids, gain my confidence and get better, speak with coaches, and make friends,” Castellon said. “Everything I expected became a reality. I made lifelong friends, coaches got to see my skills, and I feel way more confident than I did before the trip.”
His mindset stepping into that first camp was all business with a purpose behind it. Every rep at 100 percent — but never at the expense of enjoying the game. “Having fun is very important,” he said, “because you need to love what you do.”

That approach paid off most at Clemson, his favorite stop of the TOUR, where he felt the organization of the camp gave him more reps and more chances to show what he could do. Furman earned a special mention too, thanks to the energy of the coaching staff + special shout out to Coach Colder and the way they poured into the athletes. But ask him about any stop and he’ll tell you the same thing — he loved every second of the trip.
The grind was real, though. While no single drill overwhelmed him, Castellon admits the bag drills tested him the most, the kind of work that sets your legs on fire by the last rep. And the coaching that stuck with him wasn’t about mechanics at all. It came from Coach Brooks, who worked with him on his mental state — staying calm, staying focused, keeping his mind right when the pressure builds. For a quarterback, that might be the most important muscle there is.

The TOUR also changed how Castellon sees his own future. He’s honest about where he started: a little unmotivated about the recruiting process. Walking out of six college camps flipped that switch completely. “After the trip I really, really want to get recruited,” he said. “It would be a blessing to be able to play for one of these big-time schools.” The moment that crystallized it came walking into the stadiums at NC State and Georgia Tech, where he could picture himself on that field, playing for the people who support him and the people he loves.
What he learned about himself might matter even more than what any coach saw. “I learned that I am better than I think I am,” he said, “and that I can achieve a lot of things.”

His pitch to athletes considering the 2027 TOUR is straightforward: it’s the best experience if you want to make friends who share your goals, and it’s a trip you’ll never forget — the kind you tell stories about for years. His favorite story from this one? The AI photos of Woo. No doubt about it.
But Castellon saved his biggest shoutout for someone who wasn’t on the bus. “I want to shout out my dad for Father’s Day, because without him nothing would be possible,” he said. “Having my dad by my side allows me to do great things for myself. Without his guidance I wouldn’t be the man I am today. Love you, Dad.”
The 2027 College Bus + Camps TOUR is limited to 30 athletes. Early-bird deadline is July 1. Details at QBmagTOUR.com.
