Leading the Way: QB Goodwin’s Relentless Drive

Quarterback Mason Goodwin is already setting himself apart as one of Arizona’s most dedicated young athletes. Representing ALA West Foothills in Goodyear, this Class of 2031 quarterback has been playing football for eight years — a passion that started when he was just three years old, tossing the ball around with his dad. That early love for the game has evolved into a fierce commitment to competition, leadership, and improvement on and off the field.

For Mason, the quarterback position stands above all others. “Playing QB is probably the hardest position to play in any sport,” he says. “I love the challenge and being able to lead my team.” His approach to the game centers around composure and leadership — the traits he believes define a great quarterback. “The most important characteristic of being a quarterback is the ability to control your emotions and lead your team through the ups and downs.”

Mason’s competitive drive is matched by his work ethic. When he’s not on the football field, he’s running track or playing basketball to stay sharp. He trains year-round with renowned quarterback coach Mike Giovando at Elev8 Quarterback Academy. “Coach Gio’s camps are always fun,” Mason shares. “He teaches all aspects of the QB position and has helped take me to the next level. He believes in me.” Mason will also be attending the 8th Annual Mike Giovando Winter Camp on January 3-4 in Phoenix, Arizona, where he’ll continue to refine his mechanics and leadership alongside some of the best young quarterbacks in the region.

His short-term goal is clear — to bring home a National Championship in North Carolina. His team is currently advancing through the regional playoffs, heading to California for Round 2. Beyond this season, Mason’s focus is already locked on the future: “My 12-month goal is working out and getting back in the lab preparing for next year.”

Mason thrives in big moments, especially when the odds are against him. He recalls rallying from behind to win big games as some of his favorite experiences. “Don’t pay attention to the scoreboard,” he says. “Keep grinding and leading your team.” Last season, his versatility shined when he made the game-winning interception as a safety in the championship game — proving he’s a playmaker on both sides of the ball.

When it’s game day, Mason keeps things simple. He listens to his favorite music, warms up with his team, and locks in mentally — no superstitions needed. His mindset is grounded in hard work and consistency. “If you want to be better than the rest, you have to work harder than the rest,” he says. “Hard work pays off.”

Inspired by NFL star Josh Allen, Mason admires the way Allen competes and leads with confidence. That same fire fuels Mason’s drive every time he steps onto the field. With high schools like Desert Edge, Millennium, and Chandler on his radar, there’s no question Mason Goodwin is a name to watch in Arizona football — a young leader already proving that passion, preparation, and perseverance are the foundation of greatness.
