Leo Brady: Building the Foundation for a Promising Quarterback Career

Leo Brady, a 9th grader at Canyon High School in Anaheim, California, is a young quarterback with a passion for football that has grown steadily since his childhood. Leo’s journey began in 5th grade, inspired by weekends spent watching NFL games with his family and cheering for the Michigan Wolverines. A pivotal moment came in 2019 when he attended the iconic Ohio State vs. Michigan game, solidifying his dream to one day play the sport he loves.

For Leo, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of throwing a perfect spiral, and he finds joy in mastering the mechanics of being a quarterback. He views the position as more than just throwing passes, believing that a great QB is a leader who inspires their team through calmness and composure. His favorite quarterback, JJ McCarthy of Michigan, has been a major influence—not only for his on-field talent but also for his advocacy for mental health and pregame meditation.

Leo is a multi-sport athlete who runs track, plays golf, lifts weights, and reads in his downtime. He credits his soccer background for developing his athletic foundation and encourages young athletes to participate in multiple sports to enhance their overall skills.

This offseason, Leo’s short-term goal is to excel in 7v7 football, while his long-term aspirations include building muscle, improving speed, increasing arm strength, and eventually becoming the starting varsity quarterback. Last year, he faced a setback when he broke his foot, forcing him to take an eight-week break and miss part of the 7v7 season. However, Leo didn’t let the injury deter him—instead, he used the time to study film and deepen his understanding of the game, a testament to his determination and resilience.

Leo’s commitment to improvement is unwavering. He lifts weights with his team daily, hits the gym on his own, and dedicates time to quarterback mechanics and weekend QB training sessions. He credits the coaches at 3DQB for helping him refine his technique and mental approach to the game.

A standout moment from his freshman season was a 60-yard rushing touchdown on the second play of a game, showcasing his athleticism and playmaking ability. Now, as he gears up for camp, Leo is excited to continue growing as a quarterback and leader.

Leo’s advice for younger athletes is simple: stay patient, work hard, and embrace a multi-sport journey. His story is one of perseverance, passion, and a relentless drive to improve, making him a player to watch as he progresses through his high school career and beyond.

On December 14-15, the staff at Quarterback Magazine is excited to see how Leo performs!
