Chance Hocker, a standout at Park Jr. High in Artesia, New Mexico, is making a name for himself in the world of youth football. His story is one of perseverance, hard work, and an unwavering passion for the game.

Chance’s journey began in 2017 during his first year of flag football. It was a tough season—he didn’t get the ball once. Seeking sympathy from his dad, he instead received some blunt advice: “You’re slow, and you can’t catch. You need to work on those things if you want to play football.” Instead of being discouraged, Chance was motivated. Inspired by an older boy from his church who played quarterback, Chance decided he wanted to play that position to ensure everyone got their chance with the ball. This decision sparked a deep passion for the game and the quarterback position.

What sets Chance apart is his love for every part of football. “I love the process! I love preparation! I love watching film and breaking down defenses! I love working with my guys, getting ready for the next season! I love to watch the guys around me get excited and succeed! I love big-time moments and the opportunity to show out! I love the entire game!” His enthusiasm is infectious, driving his teammates to strive for excellence alongside him.

Chance’s journey is guided by key values: passion, competitiveness, confidence, composure, and a successful attitude. He also believes in serving those around him, helping his teammates reach their full potential. Inspired by NFL quarterbacks Brock Purdy and Tom Brady, Chance admires their ability to read defenses and deliver precise throws. He particularly respects Purdy for using his platform to encourage Christians, a mission close to Chance’s heart.

Chance is not just a football player. He is a multi-sport athlete, enjoying baseball and basketball. Off the field, he finds joy in fishing, reading, and hunting, showcasing his well-rounded personality. To hone his skills, Chance participates in renowned camps such as QB Impact, FBU, Elite 11, QB Universe, and Rise & Fire. These camps provide the competition, learning experiences, and fun he craves, helping him to improve his game and stay ahead of the curve.

Setting both short-term and long-term goals is crucial for Chance. In the next six months, he aims to be selected for the FBU Top Gun All-Camp Team and the 8th Grade Under Armour All-American Team. Over the next year, he plans to lead his team to an undefeated Border Conference Championship, win the FBU National Championship, and prepare for high school football both mentally and physically.

Chance’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. He views failure not as a setback but as an opportunity for growth. His determination to learn from every obstacle and improve continually is a key driver of his success. His daily routine is a testament to his dedication. His day starts with a light throwing session at 5:30 in the morning, followed by mental preparation and game plan reviews after school. He meticulously warms up his body and arm before every game, ensuring he is physically and mentally prepared.

Chance acknowledges the invaluable support from his coaches, including Coach Copacia, Greg Holcomb, Dusty Kiel, Ray Phillyaw, Drew Phillips, Chris Hixson, and Senior Chief Tom George. His lifting coach, Mahahla Wiggins, and speed coach, Eddie Enriquez, have also played crucial roles in his development. He is especially grateful to his dad, who has been his unwavering support throughout his journey.

Chance lives by the mantra: “Listen, work hard, be dedicated, be your best every day, and most of all, enjoy the journey and process. Fall in love with the preparation, and the rest will work itself out.” His faith is a cornerstone of his life, and he draws strength from Joshua 1:9: “Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, be strong and courageous for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

With a rigorous training schedule that includes daily throwing sessions, bi-weekly practices with his receivers, four nights of lifting, weekly QBIQ coaching, and bi-weekly speed training, Chance is well-prepared for the future. He also attends camps and works with coaches throughout the spring and summer to ensure he is in peak condition for the season. His favorite memories revolve around throwing touchdowns in high-stakes games and witnessing his teammates succeed. These moments, from the playground to the football field, are a testament to the hard work and dedication he and his teammates have put in together.

Chance Hocker is a name to watch in the coming years. His dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence make him a standout not just at Park Jr. High, but in the broader world of youth football. As he continues to grow and develop, there’s no doubt that Chance will make significant strides in his football career, leaving a lasting impact on the sport he loves so dearly.
