As the quarterback for the East Central High School football team in St. Leon, Indiana, this junior has been playing the sport for over a decade. The game has been a constant in his life since starting in first grade, and the physicality and speed of the sport, as well as the leadership role of the quarterback, are what he enjoys most about it. His name is Cole James Burton.
Cole believes that a great quarterback is a good leader, a strong teammate, and has a relentless work ethic. He looks up to retired pro quarterback Peyton Manning as his all-time favorite, admiring his ability to change the game and his relentless pursuit of studying his opponents.
Outside of football, Cole is also a two-sport athlete, playing baseball as well. He also enjoys the outdoors and participating in activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, wakeboarding, and snow skiing. He has attended several QB camps, including the Elite 11, NFA, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Best of the Midwest, and several college prospect camps.
Cole’s goal for the next 6 months is to focus on speed and agility training, along with additional classroom knowledge. His goal for the next 12 months is to lead his team back to Lucas Oil Stadium to win back-to-back state championships. He also hopes to continue his recruitment process and pick up some offers over the summer while attending college camps.
Cole’s pre-game routine includes a walk-thru session and pre-game meal with his team after school, followed by some relaxation and hanging out with his teammates and coaches. He does not have any superstitions or rituals. He is grateful for the opportunity to play football and for the support of his friends and family throughout his journey. He is proud to be a Trojan!
