Meet Max Wagner, a 15-year-old quarterback from Phoenix, Arizona. He is currently in the class of 2026 at Chaparral High School and has been playing football since he was 8 years old. When asked about why he enjoys playing football, Max said, “I love being part of the team. The rush of making a good play. Putting the ball right where my guy can catch it. And being the guy everyone looks up to.”
Max believes that a great quarterback is someone who gets the job done consistently and can make the crucial plays when needed. His favorite current and retired professional quarterback is Joe Burrow, who he says he plays a lot like. In addition to football, Max also enjoys playing golf and basketball. He has attended several quarterback camps in the past, including Elev8QB Winter Camp and camps at ASU and Pinnacle High. His favorite part of these camps is competing against other quarterbacks and working on his mechanics.
Max’s goals for the next six months include getting bigger, faster, and stronger for his sophomore year and competing in the Elev8QB Academy Top 8 Camp in the spring. For the next 12 months, he hopes to build on his undefeated freshman season and compete with upperclassmen.
In the bonus questions, Max talked about his biggest challenge as a quarterback, which he said was playing on a poorly organized and underdeveloped team. He overcame this by making sure everyone knew their routes and timing the plays correctly. Max also shared that he doesn’t have any superstitions but likes to hype up the team before a game. He mentioned Coach Gio as the most influential coach or mentor in his football career and gave advice to young quarterbacks by saying, “Even when the game is going tough, don’t give up. Be confident in yourself.” Max has not faced any setbacks or injuries during his football career, but he has had to compete for starting positions on some teams. His off-season training routine includes staying active in the gym, bulking up, and throwing with his dad. Some of the most memorable moments of his football career include winning his first game and winning his first playoff game.
