Gabby Shattuck is a rising star in the flag football world. A 6th grader from Enrique Camarena Elementary in Chula Vista, California, Gabby is part of the Class of 2031 and has already built an impressive foundation in the sport. Her journey began three years ago when she discovered her love for football while tossing passes with her dad in the pool. That passion blossomed when her mom found an all-girls football camp, giving Gabby her first real taste of the game. Since then, she’s played on both co-ed and all-girls teams, continually refining her skills and fostering a love for competition and camaraderie.
As a quarterback, Gabby thrives on leadership and the opportunity to be involved in every play. She treasures the bonds she’s built with her teammates, some of whom have become lifelong friends. For Gabby, the field is more than a place for competition; it’s a space where relationships are forged and memories are made. Even when players go their separate ways, those connections remain strong.
Gabby embodies what it means to be a true team player. She believes that great quarterbacks stay calm under pressure, motivate their teammates, and lead with focus and positivity. Whether it’s dealing with tough losses or keeping her team united during challenging moments, Gabby knows that resilience and teamwork are the keys to success. Her inspiration comes from Diana Flores, the quarterback for the Mexican National Flag Football Team, who has become a trailblazer for girls in the sport, especially after her groundbreaking Super Bowl commercial.
Sports are a central part of Gabby’s life, but her talents and interests don’t stop there. In addition to flag football, she’s been playing softball for two years and is a dedicated Padres fan who loves watching games with her family. Gabby’s artistic side shines through her love of music—she’s been playing the drums and guitar since she was just five years old.
Gabby’s commitment to growth is evident in her goals. In the next six months, she’s focused on improving her throwing accuracy, power, and agility, particularly her 20-yard shuttle and 40-yard dash times. Her sights are set high: within the next year, she hopes to try out for the USA National Flag Football Team. Gabby is also no stranger to adversity. In one memorable game, she overcame taunts from the crowd by concentrating on her coach and teammates—a skill she continues to develop as the competition intensifies.
Her pregame routine is a testament to her dedication and focus. Exactly one hour before game time, Gabby gets ready with Eminem blasting through her speakers to pump her up. Once she’s at the field, she gears up with her teammates, channeling her energy into preparation and strategy.
One of Gabby’s most significant influences is her very first coach, Coach Alvin. Despite a challenging debut season without a single win or touchdown, Coach Alvin’s encouragement and perseverance left a lasting impression on Gabby, teaching her the importance of determination and a positive attitude. That mindset was on full display when Gabby broke her finger during a summer season game. Even in a cast, she suited up for every game to support her team and eventually returned to the field, pulling flags and even quarterbacking a play with her cast still on.
Gabby’s favorite football memory is her first-ever touchdown pass, which led to her team’s first victory. The joy she felt that day is a reminder of why she loves the game. As an only child, Gabby considers her teammates her football siblings, creating a unique bond that makes every game even more meaningful.
Looking ahead, Gabby dreams of becoming a sponsored professional athlete. With her drive, talent, and love for the game, there’s no doubt that Gabby Shattuck is on the path to greatness, inspiring others along the way. Her advice to aspiring players? Don’t be afraid to try new things, make mistakes, and work hard. Most importantly, have fun and believe in yourself—the rest will follow.
Gabby will be attending the Quarterback Magazine camp on Dec 14-15 in San Diego, CA and the team is looking forward to meeting her.
