Before Rohan Paul Jr. ever threw a pass, he looked at his dad’s trophies.
He also watched his dad play football when he was young. The games, along with those trophies around the house, showed him what the sport could mean and what hard work could earn. By age six, Rohan was playing flag football. Now the Class of 2032 quarterback from Temecula, California is working toward trophies of his own.
His first tackle football game gave him a memorable start. Rohan began the game on the bench. His team fell behind by 12 points, and then he was sent in to replace the starting quarterback. He threw a 15-yard touchdown pass, and his team came back to win. For a player in his first tackle game, it was a big debut.
That moment shows something Rohan says about himself: he isn’t afraid of big moments. “I love competing and leading my team,” the Gardner Middle School quarterback said. “I’m not afraid of big moments, and always believe in the next play.”
Believing in the next play helped him through his biggest challenge. At one point, Rohan lost his spot at quarterback, and he felt the decision had more to do with who the other player knew than with who was playing better. He didn’t let it stop him. “I just kept pushing and kept outshining them until I got the starting spot,” he said.
He credits Coach Cree Morris with helping him become more confident. He trains with quarterback coach Coach Bankhead and has attended both Left Coast camps and QB Magazine camps. The goal behind all that work is simple. “My goal is to be the most prepared player on the field,” Rohan said.
His list of what makes a great quarterback includes leadership, hard work, confidence, football IQ, and toughness. He also adds one quality that ties everything together: being someone your team trusts. When asked what he enjoys most about football, he gave a short answer that fits that list: leading his team to a win.
His favorite quarterback is Lamar Jackson, and Rohan’s reason says a lot about him. He doesn’t point to the highlight runs. He points to the work Jackson has done to improve as a passer. Rohan sees a player who kept getting better at part of his game, and that matches Rohan’s own approach.
His current goals are about getting better in the details. He wants to keep growing, fix his mechanics, and build his football IQ. “I work hard, stay coachable, and push myself to improve every day,” he said.

Most Prepared on the Field
Rohan wants to be the most prepared player on the field. Preparation is often something only teammates and coaches see, but an upgraded QB Magazine membership gives people outside his team a chance to see the work behind his performances as he develops.
