Mason Goodwin, a 7th grader at Western Sky Middle School in Litchfield Park, Arizona, is a rising star in the world of youth football. With a passion for the game ignited at just 8 years old, Mason’s journey has been shaped by his early experiences and strong influences, including watching football with his dad and idolizing Tom Brady. His dream? To lead his team and find the end zone with confidence and skill.

Mason’s dedication to football is matched by his commitment to being a great leader. He emphasizes the importance of humility, hard work, and staying calm under pressure, qualities he admires in his heroes, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Both quarterbacks exemplify the ability to guide their teams to victory, even in the most challenging moments, and Mason strives to embody these traits in his own game.

Outside of football, Mason enjoys a variety of activities. He loves snow skiing, surfing the waves at Mission Beach, playing pickleball, trout fishing, and serving on his church’s production team. His diverse interests reflect his energetic and well-rounded personality.

A highlight of Mason’s football journey was attending the QB Magazine Combine in San Diego over Memorial Day Weekend. He relished the opportunity to meet new people, throw to new receivers, and soak in the California weather. The experience was not only enjoyable but also inspiring, further fueling his ambition.

In terms of his development, Mason is focused on short-term goals like sharpening his running game and jab step, while also working long-term on improving his pocket passing under pressure. He values preparation and follows a routine with his dad that includes stretching, warming up at short range, and working on his footwork and throwing routes. Although he doesn’t have any superstitions, his meticulous approach to training is evident.

Mason credits his success to the support of his dad and Private QB Coach Mike Giovando who has trained NFL clients such as New Orleans Saints Spencer Rattler and Carolina Panthers Jack Plummer. His dad has been playing catch with him since he was three years old, providing invaluable guidance and encouragement. Coach Giovando has also played a crucial role in helping Mason refine his mechanics throughout the season.

While Mason has been fortunate to avoid major injuries, he has faced challenges along the way. His biggest setback was being on a team without the right coaches, but by switching teams, he found the support he needed to build his confidence and showcase his skills.

In addition to football, Mason enjoys playing flag football, 7’s, running track, and participating in 5k runs. He recently began boxing, which has significantly improved his footwork as a quarterback. Last fall, he demonstrated his skills by throwing three touchdown passes and kicking two out of three extra points. He also recently achieved a personal best by throwing a long ball 45 yards in practice.

Mason’s determination and work ethic are further fueled by the motivational words of his dad: “Your freedom is on the other side of your fears” and “Your greatness lies on the other side of your pain.” These principles guide Mason as he continues to develop his skills and strive for greatness on and off the field.
